Aria's teaches her classes based on what
the group (or individual) most needs on that day. On full moon days,
she tends towards teaching more of a flow. On new moon days, she
tends towards teaching more of an alignment-based, longer holds
class.
Her Vinyasa flow classes are most influced by the Prana Flow tradition, which
links breath to pulsation in movement. By allowing the focus of
each class to be the breath, each pose, or asana, becomes
almost secondary. The movements are circular, encouraging a natural
awareness of how our body moves through life. The physical practice
becomes a movement meditation, an inner challenge: can I maintain
a powerful, deep breath, no matter what pose I do, no matter what
I am experiencing?
In Aria's alignment-based classes, the flow is slower and she emphasizes
internal muscular, skeletal and breath awareness in each pose. Though
the class may not move as quickly, each pose is held for much longer,
allowing for a deeper release and a safe exploraiton of our body's
limits.
Expect each class to contain some type of core strengthening and
all classes to maintain an awareness of the breath. This focus on
the breath, or pranayama, is so that we can access Prana,
or Life Force. The end result is not just an amazing workout and
deep stretch, but a powerful meditation that stills the mind and
creates harmony in the body
Because Aria enjoys variety, she never teaches the same class twice.
Whether you attend a group class or see her privately, you will
always be exposed to something new.
Aria is grateful for all the styles of yoga she has studied and
includes elements of each in her practice and her teaching. She
owes a deep gratitude to her mentor, Shiva
Rea whose fluid style of Prana Flow incorporates modern vinyasa
sequencing, fused with the ancient Indian martial arts practice
of Kalari.
Aria is also tremendously grateful to her City Yoga teacher,Anthony
Benanati for his vast knowledge of alignment and his ability
to inspire her to work smarter than she ever has before. Aria's
other influences lie in Hatha yoga, as taught to her by Ana
Forrest; Power Yoga, as taught to her by Bryan
Kest; Sivananda
Yoga, Tai Chi and Chi Gong.
